![]() So here we have another German lab experimenting with possible war weapons. There are a few clues indicating that the lab may have been located in Germany: In the Green Witch arc we’ve seen that Finny can speak German and the speech bubbles of the scientists in the lab are rectangular instead of round which in this arc meant that they are speaking in German. It refers to his blond hair and his strength that resembles the character “Finn” from the “Fenian Cycle”, a collection of stories from the Celtic mythology. ![]() The name “Finnian” was given to him by Ciel after he and Sebastian destroyed the lab and offered him the job as gardener. He was probably born in this lab and had no given name that we know of despite the number “S-012” that’s tattooed on the back of his neck. That’s where his unnatural strength comes from. Before he became the gardener in Ciel’s household he was experimented on in a lab along with other children. To go into more detail let’s take a look at each of the servants. Maybe they all have some sort of connection to Ciel’s target of revenge and could be important later on in the plot. Maybe Sebastian also thought that Ciel might need some human company.īut it would be interesting if there’s another reason for choosing these very three servants. ![]() One reason why the servants were hired could simply be to represent the image of a normal household since only a single butler would appear suspicious to others. Maybe Ciel and Sebastian stumbled upon the servants during their missions for the Queen and noticing their special talents Ciel decided to keep them as servants rather than presenting them to the Queen (like what happened with the sulin samples in the Green Witch arc). But in the flashback in chapter 92, Ciel looks surprised when Finny appeared. Sebastian says during the Circus arc that he selected the servants. So could there be other reasons why they were hired? But in the Green Witch arc, the servants accompanied Ciel and Sebastian on their mission to Germany. They are even referred to as “private soldiers” (ch. The obvious answer to this question is that they were chosen for their skills so they can protect the manor while Ciel and Sebastian are absent. So why even bother with hiring new staff? Also, Sebastian can protect Ciel on his own. Maybe it would even be easier if the servants didn’t destroy everything once in awhile. Sebastian is very capable of running the manor all by himself. Therefore, they hold Sebastian in great respect and they are very loyal to Ciel. He taught them what they needed to know and so they found a new home in Ciel’s household. Mey-Rin, Bard and Finny have been selected by Sebastian. But they each have a unique talent when it comes to protecting the Phantomhive manor which is their actual function (as can be seen at the end of the Circus arc when they prevented the circus troupe from invading the manor). In this Kuromystery post for Ciel’s servants we’ll concentrate on Mey-Rin, Bard and Finny because they all have been hired after Ciel and Sebastian formed their contract but before the story of the manga begins.Īll three are not very good at their job as servants and therefore, they cause more trouble than they solve.
